"Self unites with the Greater Whole"
The 12th Annual Iranian Arts and Cultural Festival
By: Azin Arefi
When my essential Self unites with the Greater Whole
Then every particle of the Universe will become enlightened to my soul.
I will blaze like a candle for the sake of this Union,
So that all my life's moments spent on the path of this love will become one.
--- Rumi
The great Persian Sufi Poet and Philosopher Rumi wrote that only when one's individual self unites with the universe is one truly enlightened and happy and that the search for this union is the ultimate goal of each person's life. Our 12th Annual Iranian Arts and Cultural Festival is inspired by Rumi and his words. We invite each of you individuals to unite with the greater whole and join Payvand and Iranian Federated Women's Club (IFWC) for our cultural event on Sunday, October 12, 2008 at Cupertino Quinlan Community Center, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This year's free festival and fundraising event promises to be a great success, filled with delicious Persian food and cultural activities such as dance, music, poetry and story readings, arts and crafts, book signings, and Payvand's own young cultural ambassadors who will give presentations on different aspects of Iranian culture.
Our festival showcases the pride the Iranian community of mixed generations has in its rich culture and shows their understanding of their position in a world that is at times hostile towards that very culture. Above all, the festival promises a great time. So as Rumi would encourage, set your life's goal on connecting with others and join us to elevate your individual self and be enlightened by the greater whole!

The Iranian Federated Women's Club (IFWC) (est. 1996) is a local, non-profit, nonpolitical, and non-religious organization whose mission is to integrate and empower the Iranian community, and to promote arts and culture by bringing educational services, scholarships, and cultural activities to Bay Area communities.
The Payvand Cultural School (est. 1995) was founded on our belief that Iranian American youth need to participate in a healthy community that fosters Iranian traditions, heritage, and language, while still encouraging successful American cultural integration. PCS provides educational instruction and opportunities for social interaction in Farsi, and also teaches traditional Iranian music and dance. PCS also teaches English as a Second Language (ESL) to adults. Our school is run by experienced teachers and dedicated volunteers.
