Zarbang & Namah: "Mirror" in Chicago, Oct 18
Chicago Saturday - October 18, 2008 08:00 PM
Zarbang join Banafsheh Sayyad and Namah Dance Ensemble in presenting "Mirror" at Columbia College's Dance Center on Oct 18, at 8pm.
At the intersection of art and spirituality comes an evening of wild and whirling dance, ground-breaking drums and Rumi's evocative poetry. This is a well-established collection of masters, seasoned from years together, all at the top of their game. Mirror features the long-favoured Sufi dance innovator Banafsheh, her dance company NAMAH and music from the world renowned ZARBANG.
Merging contemporary dance with ancient Sufi ritual, Persian dance, Tai Chi and Flamenco, Banafsheh's choreography takes the audience on a journey into the mysteries of being alive and living from the heart, accompanied by ZARBANG's hypnotic wall of sound.
Mirror reflects our common human experience where, we don't see ourselves as we really are, in the full glory and majesty that lies beyond self-interested egoism, which is wreaking havoc in our world today.
NAMAH: Kelly Archbold, Bahareh Ebrahimzadeh & Banafsheh Sayyad
ZARBANG: Javid Afsari Rad, Pejman Hadadi, Behnam Samani & Reza Samani
