Renowned for their expressiveness, technical mastery, and original compositions, Strunz & Farah will present a night of guitar music replete with refined, exotic wildness. Strunz & Farah's music may best be described as international acoustic instrumental improvisational guitar music, or as some have called it, ethnojazz. Innovative and original guitarists Strunz & Farah, performing together since 1979, have created an entirely new expression for the acoustic guitar. Decades ahead of their time, they originated an exotic style that incorporates the cultural riches of their native lands: their meeting marked the first time Latin American and Middle Eastern music came together on the guitar. Originally from Costa Rica and Iran respectively, Jorge Strunz and Ardeshir Farah infuse their ethnic roots along with flamenco, classical and jazz elements into their highly virtuosic, rhythmic, and improvisation-rich original instrumental music, dazzling audiences and influencing guitarists worldwide. They remain the undisputed masters of the form they created.
Their current ensemble is a quintet, comprising, along with the two acoustic guitars, woodwinds, bass and percussion, all world-class musicians. The many laudatory reviews they have received, from both the English and Spanish-language press, speak for themselves. They have worked with many renowned world music artists and have recorded as guest artists with artists such as Joan Baez and have recorded and performed with Jackson Browne, and have shared the stage with artists such as Miles Davis, Chick Corea, George Benson, Kenny Loggins, and many others.
Strunz & Farah’s albums have sold well over a million records worldwide, and several of their works have topped the Billboard World Music charts, won Billboard World Music Album of the Year and have received a Grammy nomination. Jorge Strunz has received two Presidential awards from the government of Costa Rica for his cultural contributions and originality.
