Contemporary Mystical Persian Music & Dance
Following successful tours of the US & Europe in 2003, the leading Persian percussion ensemble, ZARBANG has once again teamed up with acclaimed dancer/choreographer, Banafsheh Sayyad for an evening of their new work. Elements of Persian Sufi dance & music are fused with Flamenco and improvisational elements to present a way to communicate ancient sacred notions in a contemporary language. Outer Circles originate from personal trance states that are then given structure and order, hence finding a pattern within chaos. Slow and meditative, yet ecstatic and exuberant, it features dance and live music pieces that delve into the mysteries of floating on the outer circles, far from the source, immersed in materiality, yet seeking, longing and pushing the limits of temporal being.
