The Revolution of 1979 in Iran promised a time of progress, justice, and reform. But the euphoria surrounding this movement quickly turned to despair as the promises of the revolution turned on the young people who were its greatest supporters. Roya Hakakian, a young Jewish girl of a family of intellectuals, was witness to the roller-coaster ride of emotions, injustices, and restrictions that the Revolution produced.
Hakakian, a gifted storyteller and essayist, conveys a sense of hope for her country that has seen incredible changes over the past 25 years. Her memoir is the story of struggle, of a young woman trying to find her voice during a time of repression. Roya Hakakian is a former associate producer at CBS 60 Minutes and a documentary filmmaker. She is the author of two acclaimed volumes of poetry and a recipient of the 2002-2003 Dewitt / Wallace Reader's Digest Fellowship.
Roya Hakakian's book, Journey from the Land of No, will be available for sale and signing at the event. Books may also be pre-ordered with your reservation.
