THE COMMUNITY CELEBRATES THE FIRST US PERSIAN PARADE DAY
The first Persian Parade Day, expected to draw thousands of people from our Community, will be held in New York City in commemoration of the Nowruz Holiday Season on March 27, 2004. It is envisaged that the extravaganza will have a combination of musical bands, parade floats displaying our historical, archaeological, and cultural heritage and characters, dances, folk songs, live theatrical performances, and a huge media presence.
Perseverance by a dedicated number of visionaries from our Community Has now paid off by their securing the New York City's competitive permit, granted to hold the event on Madison Avenue between 27th and 41st Streets in Manhattan (8:00 am for the actual parade event participants, and 10:00 for everyone). This year's projected success and considerable turn out by ALL from across the US and Canada will undoubtedly establish this as an annual event, which should bring Fortune 500 corporate sponsorships in upcoming years. The Persian Parade is anticipated to draw participation from all Iranian-Americans nationwide, to celebrate and showcase the vast historical and cultural contributions of their ancestors to the world at-large, and more significantly their very own contemporary contributions to the advancement of quality of life for all Americans in the past several decades.
At this time, the Organizing Committee is most urgently seeking the endorsement, sponsorship and full fledged participation of Iranian-American Organizations, Mass Media and Institutions from ALL walks of life, including all religions, ethnicities, and cultural diversities that comprise not only the political entity currently called Iran, but also the wider region that observes certain aspects of Persian Culture in South and Central Asia.
Individuals and groups with talents illustrating the rich Persian heritage and/or its diverse folk cultures, volunteers who will serve on Various committees and benefactors who could contribute toward the success of the event are particularly encouraged to contact the Organizing Committee by sending email info@persianparade.org or call: (800) 936-7818 or (212)315-5588 or (973) 471-4283.
Please check the Persian Parade web site at http://www.Persianparade.org for upcoming information, suggestions, announcements and feedback. Your favorable consideration and affirmative action for massive attendance on March 27, for this one of a kind Community event is sought and gratefully appreciated. If successfully implemented, this would demonstrate the true image and multifaceted contributions of our Community to the American public and set a new legendary milestone for the future to be reckoned with.
p.s. [We understand time restraint of almost 35 days is of concern by some, but assure everyone that the organizing committee, comprised of a dozen or two volunteers were just notified of the NYC permit, despite having struggled to achieve the same goal over the past several years. Moreover, for those who may show a justified sensitivity toward the choice of name, please be assured that every effort will be made to conspicuously display IRAN, and Iranian in our correspondences, press releases and on the day of the parade on our banners. Persian parade was chosen through a democratic process by the participation of a dozen or two members of the organizing committee last week.
