To sign up to read before the event, email poetry@persianartsfestival.org. This month we will celebrate a major new anthology of poetry, Language for a New Century: Contemporary Poetry from the Middle East, Asia, and Beyond, which was published by Norton in April 2008. Ravi Shankar, one of the editors of the anthology, will be with us to share poems from the anthology, which includes Simin Behbahani, Forugh Farrokhzad, Esmail Khoi, Nader Naderpour, Sohrab Sepehri, Ahmad Shamlu, among others. There is even a sampling of Iranian-American poets such as Katayoon Zandvakili, Partow Nooriala, and Sholeh Wolpe. Ravi will also talk about the experience of putting the anthology together and how it is meant to share the dialog that is going on between the different cultures represented in the book.
