Barbara Slavin is a Jennings Randolph fellow at the U.S. Institute of Peace, where she is continuing research that builds on her new book: "Bitter Friends, Bosom Enemies: Iran, the U.S. and the Twisted Path to Confrontation." She is on leave from her duties as senior diplomatic reporter for USA TODAY, which she joined in 1996. A veteran correspondent who has also written for The New York Times, the Economist and the Los Angeles Times, Slavin has accompanied three secretaries of State on their official travels and reported from Iran, Libya, Israel, Russia, China, North Korea, Saudi Arabia and Syria. She is a regular commentator on U.S. foreign policy on National Public Radio, the Public Broadcasting System and C-Span and a former public policy scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
