    "Within and Without" - Contemporary Iranian Exhibition

    The inaugural exhbition of cutting edge contemporary Iranian art organised by ParAava, opens at NoMoreGrey Gallery on 12 September. Founded in 2007 by Neda Dana-Haeri and Tiraneh Tehranchian, ParAava celebrates the vibrancy of current Iranian art.



    The show focuses on ten young Iranian artists currently living and working both in Iran and outside the country. The rich cultural heritage of Iran has had a lasting on their work. The contemporary Iranian art scene is growing in significance. The vast majority of the artists featured in the show have exhbitied internationally, there is mounting interest from international collectors and an increasing number of biennales are now based in the country. The curator, Iranian-born artist Neda Dana-Haeri, has selected artists working across different media from painting and drawing, to video installation and photography.



    MAHMOUD BAKHSHI MOAKHAR’S dramatic sculptures inspired by Iranian folklore.

    GOLNAZ FATHI’S abstract paintings featuring Iranian calligraphy.

    MARYAM MOHAJER’S critically lauded films, in particular, ‘And Life Went On’ which was featured in the year’s London International Animation Festival.

    BITA FAYAZI’S sculptures which depict strange hybrid forms painted in gold leaf.

    RAMIN HAERIZADEH’S collaged photographs inspired by his Iranian heritage, and his life in Tehran.

    ROKNY HAERIZADEH’S vibrant figurative painting, which were recently auctioned at Christie’s in Dubai.

    BARBAD GOLSHIRI’S video installations inspired by her life in Iran.

    ANAHITA REZVANI’S paintings, the artists featured in the 6th Painting Biennial at the Teheran Museum of Contemporary Art in 2003.

    LEILA PAZOOKI’S photographs and video installations inspired by everyday life in Tehran.

    NEDA DANA-HAERI’S delicate paintings, evocative of her fascination with eastern philosophy and psychology.



    The exhibition will be open to the public from Wednesday 12 September, until 20 September from 11am-6pm. The private view will take place on Tuesday 11 September from 6.30pm-9pm, and journalists are welcome to attend as many of the participating artists will be present.
