Once again, it's the third Saturday of the month and you know what that means...it's time for our Levitate Saturdays. This party stands above all parties in the city because of one thing, effort. For every month for the past year, we've strived to build one amazing party after another and it's time for another special event!

Pics From Last Month's Levitate:

Well, this month's party at Roe is going to be even more amazing. This month, we have our good friend and SF's #1 House DJ, Dimitris Mykonos!!! He'll be taking on the main stage with another amazing DJ and our resident, house master Henry Pollux. The sexy throbbing sounds of their house tracks will keep you moving all the way to 3AM.

In the Persian VIP Room, we have several special guest. DJ Ramin, one of the bay area's hottest new Persian DJs, will be rocking the 1st floor. Joining him down there, will be the man behind Appollo Entertainment, DJ NIK! Last but not least, DJ Raffy will be there for a 3 way tag team of the hottest Persian, Arabic, and mediterranean grooves guaranteed to light a fire in your soul.

And last but not least, polishing off the DJ list, we have another DJ that's no stranger to SF, DJ David Q. He'll be mixing up his mind-blowing mixes of Mash-ups, Hip-Hop, and Salsa music on the top floor. His flow is absolutely mind blowing, the music is hot, you'll be dancing so hard, you might wear out your shoes.

With this fantastic combination, there's no doubt that 3rd Sat's @Roe will continue to be the best Saturday monthly in the city. Due to the popularity of Levitate Saturday, we highly suggest arriving early to avoid the long line. We have a strict dress code for this event so please dress to impress.

See you there.

04:30 PM » The Power of a Cliche: Representing Iranian Women

Salaam doostan-e aziz!

As you may have seen in the Washington Post recently, IAAB's Camp Ayandeh was a great success! Thanks for your support that helped to make the camp possible, and to all of you who sent messages of support to the campers on our camp blog. Also in the Post recently was IAAB's TRANSFORM/NATION: Contemporary Art of Iran and its Diaspora, which has opened successfully in both Washington, DC and Tehran to critical acclaim. The openings of the two simultaneous exhibitions drew more than 500 people and the show has been covered widely in the Washington Post, Northern Virginia Magazine, and WETA. The exhibitions, held concurrently at the Ellipse Arts Center in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and the Nikzad Gallery in Tehran, will run through August 4th. Please see IAAB's website for information on supplemental events in both locations.

In conjunction with the exhibition, IAAB is proud to present three multi-city events with Haleh Anvari, exhibiting writer/photographer from Iran. Information for these events is below -- we hope you will join us and look forward to seeing you in New York and Washington, D.C.!

Iranian Alliances Across Borders (IAAB) is proud to present:

The Power of a Cliche: Representing Iranian Women

04:30 PM » Abbas Kiarostami Films at Pacific Film Archive

Pacific Film Archive Presents:

Abbas Kiarostami: Image Maker

July 7 – August 30, 2007

“We are living in the age of Kiarostami, but don’t know it yet.”—Werner Herzog

One of the most critically acclaimed and influential filmmakers of the past twenty-five years, Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami has captivated Western audiences with works of deceptive simplicity and indefinable poetry. We are proud to present this retrospective of his films, from early documentaries through his celebrated “Koker trilogy” and recent masterworks.

SATURDAY JULY 21

4:30 The Wedding Suit

(Iran, 1976)

An O. Henry–like story of a wedding suit “borrowed” from the tailor’s for a night explores the world of working youths in the shops and streets of Tehran. “Great suspense is built by purely visual means, recalling the apparent simplicity of neorealism.”—MoMA, N.Y. Repeated on Saturday, July 21. Preceded by shorts: Colors (Iran, 1976) and Solution No. 1 (Iran, 1978).

6:30 Close-Up

(Iran, 1990)

“Kiarostami, in semi-documentary mode, re-creates the true story of an unemployed dreamer—an ardent cinephile—who passes himself off as the director Mohsen Makhmalbaf, a fraudulent act that becomes both an homage and a fresh work of art.”—New Yorker. Repeated on Saturday, August 18. Followed by: Film School of Hossein Sabzian (Azadeh Akhlaghi, Iran, 2005)

The Pacific Film Archive Theater is located at 2575 Bancroft Way (at Bowditch) in Berkeley, CA. Advance tickets are available by calling (510) 642-5249. For more information, visit http://bampfa.berkeley.edu/filmseries

04:30 PM » The Power of a Cliche: Representing Iranian Women

Iranian Alliances Across Borders (IAAB) and ArteEast are proud to present an afternoon of spoken word performance with Haleh Anvari, photographer/writer from Iran. Haleh's performance will look at the ways in which Iranian women are represented both in the West and in Iran, focusing on the icon of the chador. Through her performance, she deconstructs the black chador as the preferred icon of the Western media and the Islamic Republic of Iran:

"Both camps use me as the icon for the clash of civilizations. One wants to protect my soul, the other wants to rescue it…so you see me in my total blackness on books and magazines. I sell copy, I sell an idea, and in the folds of my black chador I sell in one place two violently opposed ideologies which are set on an ugly collision course."

The performance is part of simultaneous art exhibitions this summer in Washington, DC and Tehran entitled: TRANSFORM/NATION: Contemporary Art of Iran and its Diaspora ( www.iranianalliances.org/art.htm ).
