    Description
Los Angeles, CA, May 22, 2007 -- On June 14th, 2007, vocalist Rana Farhan will introduce her new album, “I Return”, a compilation of classical Farsi (Persian) poetry set to contemporary blues and jazz music, at Glow Bar @ The Marina del Rey Marriott, 4100 Admirality Way, Marina Del Rey, CA. The songs have been written by Farhan and guitarist Steven Toub. Their performance will include selections from their new recording as well as time honored jazz standards and classic blues numbers. Iranian born Farhan learned to sing and play guitar as a child in Tehran. Farhan moved to New York in 1989 where she continued to pursue her love of music and art. Her previous album with Steven Toub, “The Blues are Brewin’” was an outstanding collection of blues and jazz classics. Farhan decided to record “I Return” after she and Toub distributed a track called “Rumi’s Prayer”, based on a poem by the 13th century Iranian poet, Rumi, to their friends. The response from both American and Iranian listeners was overwhelming. Farhan and Toub began writing and recording the rest of the album, working off of both Rumi and Hafez (a 14th century poet), compiling one of the most sensitive fusions of two distant cultures. Farhan, a graduate of The School of Fine Arts of Tehran University, is also an accomplished miniature painter in the traditional style of “Gol-O-Morgh” (Flowers and Birds) and an antique restorer. The cover of the new album, designed by Shaw-Jelveh Design (www.shawjelveh.com), superposes elements from one of Farhan’s miniatures to a guitar that she found on the street, and that was subsequently played on the songs of the album
