This trio of Iranian expatriates creates a globe-spanning sound. Niyaz (which translates as “yearning” or “longing” in both Farsi and Urdu) blends the poetry of Rumi with exotic trance music. Crossing back and forth over centuries of musical expression, they combine ancient instruments, rhythms and tonalities with acoustic music and electronica — ushering in a new era of artistic possibilities for Iranian music.
