03:00 PM » Your Hope in My Heart: The Music of Orchestra El Azifet (Concerts at the Villa)

The first all-female orchestra in Tunisia, El Azifet has shared the intensely textured music of Tunisia with enthusiastic audiences around the globe. Formed in 1992 by violinist, conservatory director, and conductor Amina Srarfi, this pioneering ensemble is celebrated for its exquisite rendering of the very emblem of Tunisian identity, the malouf. With both a warm embrace of times past and an eager eye to the future, El Azifet brilliantly demonstrates the potent transcendence of the country's music and culture.
