02:00 PM » PARTIAL STORIES OF DISPLACEMENT

A Short Film And Panel Discussion

Presented by: Azadeh Saljooghi, MFA and Communication Ph.D. Candidate

Date & Time: Friday October 14, 2005, 2:00PM - 3:30PM
Place: University Of Utah, LNCO 1100

Distinguished Panelists:

  • Donna Land Maldonado, KRCL General Manager

  • Kristi Ryujin, Director of Utah Opportunity Scholarship program

  • Abtihal Raji-Kubba, Director of Product Development, Bard Access

  • Karen Dace, Associate VP for Diversity, University of Utah

  • Lisa Flores, Ethnic Studies Coordinator, University of Utah

Azadeh Saljooghi, recipient of the U’s 2005-6 Steffenson-Cannon Scholarship, will screen her 28-minute experimental art documentary Partial Stories of Displacement, which weaves women's stories through a poem by Wislawa Szymborska and prose written by the filmmaker. The film grapples with the ways in which women’s personal accounts intersect with globalization. Articulating displacement as an empowering rather than crippling modern phenomenon, Partial Stories of Displacement combines conventional and unorthodox categories of displacement through women's stories. It invites constructive dialogue in our local communities and gives voice to the silenced
stories.
