SHIRIN EBADI :: Talk on Human Rights (in Persian)

    Bay Area - San Francisco Monday - May 16, 2005     04:00 PM

SHIRIN EBADI | MONDAY MAY 16

    2003 Nobel Peace Prize Recipient

Ebadi is the first Iranian woman and the first Muslim woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize and the first woman in the history of the Iranian justice system to have served as a judge. She grew up in Tehran where, in 1965, she began serving as judge in the Department of Justice. Though she was dismissed from this post as a result of the 1979 revolution, Ebadi continued to work on the issues close to her heart, writing books and articles on children's, women's, refugees' and workers' rights. In 1992, she re-obtained a lawyer's license and set up her own practice. Come hear this fascinating and accomplished woman talk about human rights and share her insights into the rights of women and children in the context of inter-religious dialogue. This program will be in Persian and will be simultaneously translated into English. All attendants must bring a photo ID/driver's license for headset rental.
