08:00 PM » The Golden Mask of Gooran

WHAT:
Behold! Wild Persian zebras are capering on a stage near you. Avaz International Dance Theatre combines contemporary movement with Iranian classical and folk dance traditions to tell the story of The Golden Mask of Guran, a mix of historical reality, fairy tale and myth from Ferdowsi’s Shah-nameh, the epic history of pre-Islamic Persia. Azadeh is a Roman slave girl given to the Persian king, a prodigious hunter whose favorite prey are the wild Persian zebras (guran). Using a magic mask, Azadeh summons the Golden Gur, a mythical creature that lets her communicate with the wild zebras when they are in danger. When the king discovers the power of the mask, he is given a tantalizing glimpse of the Golden Gur and is driven to capture it.
