Transplanted Writer Series: Iranian-American Women Poets
Poetry Center San Jose is proud to present an evening of poetry and discussion featuring Iranian-American artists Persis Karim, Zara Houshmand, and Katayoon Zandvakili.
The event will take place on Thursday, November 4, 2004 at 7:30pm in Room #225 of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library, located on the San Jose State University campus.
Persis Karim is an assistant professor at San Jose State University, co-editor and co-author of A World Between: Poems, Short Stories and Essays by Iranian-Americans (George Braziller, 1999), and co-editor of a second anthology "Let Me Tell You Where I Have Been: New Writing by Women of the Iranian Diaspora (forthcoming).
Zara Houshmand is an award winning translator of Bijan Mofid's plays as well as playwright of The Future Ain't What It Used to Be and In Xanadu.
Katayoon Zandvakili is author of the poetry collection Deer Table Legs (University of Georgia Press, 1998). The title poem of Deer Table Legs appeared in Pushcart Prize XXIV (2000). Her work has appeared in numerous publications and anthologies.
