    Bay Area - San Francisco Wednesday - July 6, 2011     04:14 PM

This four week series (Wednesdays, July 2011) will introduce the dance, art, and historic background of the folklore dances of Persia. Farima Berenji—cultural anthropologist, archaeologist, and Ballet Afsaneh principal dancer—is an expert of Iranian dance, history, and culture. In this workshop she will teach both technique and background on folk styles including Bandari, Kurdish, Lezghi, Azeri, Sistani, Balouchi, Qashqa'i, Gilaki and more.

Join Farima Berenji as she explores the wonders, myths, cultures, and dances of Persia. Surrounded by splendid mountains, the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf, Persia has one of the richest and oldest cultures in the world. For over 5000 years Persia was a melting pot of civilizations and demographic movements between Asia and Europe, and under Cyrus the Great, Persia became the center of the world's first empires. Come explore the great wonders of Persia, hear the stories of its lost empires, and learn more about the arts, its beautiful classic folklore dances and music, the culture, the language, myths, and the people that created this historic country.
