Description
WHY
•The UN’s Int’l Atomic Energy Agency has consistently found no evidence that Iran is building a nuclear weapon (ala Iraqi WMD). Even our own intelligence agencies agreed in the Dec. ’07 Nat’l Intelligence Estimate.
•It is ridiculous and naïve to claim, as John McCain has, that Iran is somehow allied w/ al Qaeda. They are not.
•A war with Iran would be devastating for all. Iran is a much larger country, with three times the population of Iraq. And, unlike Iraq, Iran actually has an air force, ballistic missiles, a navy, and a large, well-trained army.
•War w/ Iran would undoubtedly send Iraq spiraling into utter chaos, and quite likely engulf the entire region.
•America simply can not afford another reckless war, either in terms of treasure or blood; nor int’l good will.
•We may not like the rulers of Iran, but a US military strike would only strengthen their support among Iranians.
HOW
•Inform yourself; investigate; ask question; seek answers.
•Write/call your Rep./Sen. and tell them to vote against these disastrous resolutions and to oppose war with Iran.
•Support local and national peace/justice/human rights organizations; there really is strength in numbers.
•Inform others; encourage them to oppose war with Iran.
•Contact your local media outlets—letters to the editor, phone calls to your local TV/radio stations, etc.
•Organize! Protest! Make your opposition truly heard!
•Support local anti-war resolutions by your city council.
The Bush Administration is eager for a war with Iran:
• An unwavering policy of forced “regime change”
• Their pro-war rhetoric has heated up a bit recently, closely matching messages we heard pre-Iraq War
• Serious opposition at even the highest levels of the armed services has been increasingly silenced
• New information is revealed on a weekly basis about enhanced preparations for a military strike
Unfortunately, Congress is now fueling the fire with two new pro-Iran War resolutions:
• Res. 362 in the House; Res. 580 in the Senate
• These resolutions call for a complete blockade of Iran (land, air and sea). This is essentially an act of war, and would certainly be seen as such by Iran.
