07:00 PM » Terra Incognita II: Abbas Kiarostami

New Langton Arts presents an evening with two major films by Abbas Kiarostami, Taste of Cherry and Roads of Kiarostami. These screenings complement the ongoing exhibit Critical Foreground, a group show of international contemporary artists whose works foreground the representation and manipulation of landscape.

Abbas Kiarostami’s films are distinguished by their simplicity; a poetic meditation slowly deepens into a sophisticated dialogue that mixes nature and culture, fact and fiction. Taste of Cherry won him the Cannes Palm d’Or in 1998; it follows the journey of a middle-aged man seeking assistance for his suicide during a drive in the hills around Tehran. Roads of Kiarostami (2005) likewise follows paths, focusing on Kiarostami’s still landscape photography.
