This year, ICO is organizing our annual Norooz Celebration to promote the New Year and associated traditions and culture. The event will be held on Sunday, March 4th, 2007 from 5-8pm on the UCSF Parnassus campus (Milberry Union, City Lights and Golden Gate rooms) and is free and open to UCSF faculty, students and the general public. One goal of the event is to raise funds for the Mercy for All organization through voluntary donations. Mercy for All is a charity organization in Iran that supports thousands of orphaned children and poor families. It does not represent or support any particular governmental, political, or religious view as it is strictly a people/social organization. There are committees both in the United States and in Iran that work close together to maintain this organization and raise funds for this very worthy cause. Please feel free to visit their website at www.mercyforall.org. Another goal of our Norooz program is to educate the public about the meaning of our important holiday and share in the traditional dinner and festivities of the holiday. We will be featuring several dance and daf performances. A traditional Norooz dinner will follow the cultural performances. To encourage attendance and raise funds, we hope to raffle prizes during the reception. We hope that you can support us and help make this event a success. Specifically, we are seeking monetary donations and/or gifts that can be raffled. Monetary donations will benefit the Mercy for All charity organization. A list of companies and individuals that donate to the event will be compiled and featured in the event program. I hope that you and your organization can participate in this event, either through attendance or contribution. I appreciate your consideration and hope to hear from you soon. Please contact Asal at asadatra@yahoo.com or (949)413-0984 if you are interested.
