ZANAN FEB MEETING

Zanan Monthly Meeting: "Introduction to Practical Philosophy",
Instructor: Maryam Safinia, Saturday Feb 10, 2 to 5 PM, Claremont
Library in Berkeley. For more info: zanan_irany@ yahoo.com

"Who am I? What am I doing here? What am I meant to be doing?
How can I be happy? How can I reduce stress and still be
effective? "Practical Philosophy" offers an effective and
novel approach to the great questions of life. It takes the
master philosophies of East and West and examines how they
can be put to immediate practical use. It shows how these
questions are not just theoretical, but an effective guide
to life and how it may be lived to the fullest. The result
is happiness and freedom from the small and binding circles
of habitual existence."

I am very glad to announce that Mariam Safinia has kindly
accepted my invitation as a guest speaker for Zanan February
meeting to introduce Practical Philosophy.

Mariam Safinia originally trained as an architect at the
Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and later at Durham
University in England , has moved to Bay area in 2004.
Practical Philosophy is a bug Mariam caught when she attended
an introductory course in London in 1989; it has since grown
into a passion and a way of life for her. She joined the
School of Economic Science in London in 1989 and remained a
student and subsequently a tutor there. Not finding a similar
establishment in the Bay Area where she could continue her
`spiritual fitness regime', Mariam did the next best thing
and established The School of Practical Philosophy in San
Francisco in September 2004
(http://www.practicalphilosopher.org).

The School now offers Practical Philosophy courses in San
Francisco , Tiburon, Palo Alto and Danville.

"Iran, Sanctions and War: Time to Act!"

Organised by Campaign Iran (www.campaigniran.org)

Saturday 10 February

7:00 PM

Location:

Kanoon Towhid

30-32 Southerton Road

Hammersmith

Speakers:

- Dr Sami Ramadani (Senior Lecturer London Metropolitan University)

- Chris Nineham (Stop The War Coalition)

- Counsillor Rania Khan (Respect Counsillor for Tower Hamlets)

- Professor Abbas Edalat (Campaign Iran)

Less than four years after the invasion of Iraq by the US and the UK on the false pretext of imminent threat of 'Weapons of Mass Destruction', we are again witness to a similar campaign of hysteria, disinformation and alienation, preparing the ground for another disastrous military adventure in the middle-east, this time against Iran.

Activists who have formed Campaign Iran, part of the international "Campaign Against Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran", have been working hard since 2005 in tackling some of these issues in the UK by challenging the biased media reports, lobbying MP's and petitioning the government at various levels.

This event will focus on the need for the Iranian expatriate community to raise their voice against what is becoming an increasingly real threat against the sovereignty of Iran and the livelihood Iranians.
