05:30 PM ยป BAM: ITS DEVASTATION AND REBUILDING

TUESDAY JANUARY 25 | MIDDLE EAST
NOOSHIN RAZANI, Physician; Surgeon; Fellow

On December 26, 2003, the Iranian city of Bam suffered a catastrophic earthquake. More than 30,000 people died and thousands were left homeless, with 85 percent of the buildings in shambles. In the months following the earthquake, volunteers from across the world traveled to Bam.

Razani will share her experiences as a volunteer for the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent field hospital in the city of Bam. As political and religious barriers grow between the people of Iran and the rest of the world, the devastation in Bam serves as a reminder of the human experiences we all share.

Raziani is a graduate of UCSF, Harvard School of Public Health and UC Berkeley. She has won numerous awards and grants, performed extensive research and is the co-founder of UCSF Health Policy Interest Group. She is a fellow and practicing pediatric medicine in the Bay Area.
