**************************
A modern woman's mystical journey deep into the heart of her
native country, Iran, in search of spiritual rites and rituals
hidden for centuries. From the women's chamber of the great
mosque, opened for the first time to the outside world, to mystics
in trance, and to the sacred dance of the dervishes, performed in
secret in the remote mountains of Kurdistan, Aryana Farshad gained
access to religious ceremonies and locations never before recorded.
Aryana Farshad is a gifted diaspora film maker currently from
Beverly Hills, who has made a film after her travels in Iran in the
year 2000 called "Mystic Iran; The Unseen World." It is a jewel-like
presentation of religions and spirituality in Iran both past and
present with special emphasis on Zoroastrian ceremonies as well
as never before filmed women dervishes practicising Sama and other
rituals.
Aryana has long been a follower of Sufism and attempts in her film
to share her spiritual experiences and quest. Her film has been
narrated by Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee: Shohreh
Aghdashloo.
Aryana has a long history in film making and is friends with many of
the most reknowned Iranian film makers in the business both current
and from the time of the former regime. She learned her craft at the
prestigious state film institute of France "L'IDHEC (L'Institut Des
Hautes Etudes Cinematographique.) and was an apprentice of the late
French film maker and mystic; Albert Lamorisse, two time Oscar
winner for his films: "The Red Balloon" and "The Lovers Wind" which
was an aerial tour of Iran and its mythology. In fact he lost his
life in Iran during the filming of this work in a helicopter
accident.
Aryana also served as a judge and organizer of the former:"Tehran
International Film Festival." and has more currently done work for
both Columbia Pictures and Universal Studios. She has recently
returned from screening her new film :"Mystic Iran" in London for
the Iran Heritage Society where it was very well received.
Copies of her film in both DVD and VHS format will be available for
purchase after the screening.
