7:00 p.m. Pre-concert lecture by Kayhan Kalhor on the evolution of Persian music.
Grammy Award-nominated kamancheh (spike-fiddle) master Kayhan Kalhor has been instrumental in popularizing traditional Persian music in the West through his thriving solo career, his collaborations with famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and as part of the popular world music duo Ghazal. In this concert, Kalhor performs dynamic improvisations with brilliant artists from a new generation of Persian classical musicians: Siamak Jahangiry (ney-flute), Siamak Aghaei (santur-zither), Hamid Khabazi (tar-plucked lute), and Pedram Khaverzamini
(tombak-percussion). This concert is part of the ensemble's first U.S. tour.
