ISFAHAN: Imperial Persia’s Glittering Jewel

Saturday, May 15, 10 am - 4:30 pm
Saturday lectures will include “The City of Isfahan and its Glorious Architecture” by Dr. Johanna Movassat of San Jose State University. Miniature paintings of surpassing beauty from the Safavid period will be the subject of a lecture by Professor Catherine Glynn Benkaim of UCLA. The afternoon begins with a performance and a demonstration of classical Iranian music from the Isfahan-Shiraz region that will be presented by Dr. Mahmoud Zoufonon and ensemble. A lecture on the “Literature and Poetry of the Safavid Period” by Jaleh Pinazar of UC Berkeley will be followed by returning renowned art historian, Professor Walter B. Denny, University of Massachusetts at Amherst on “Carpets, Textiles and Other Applied Arts of the Safavids”. The day concludes with a panel discussion
