With sharp wit and elegant images, this film by Iran's Samira Makhmalbaf (THE APPLE) tells the story of Noqreh (Agheleh Rezaie), a contemporary woman in post-Taliban Kabul. Now allowed to attend school, Noqreh dreams of becoming the president of the republic of Afghanistan. However, her rigid father takes a dim view of the new changes in Kabul, a city he believes is rife with blasphemy. Based on a novel by the filmmaker's father, noted director Moshen Makhmalbaf, At Five in the Afternoon won the Jury Prize at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.
