Pendar Speaker Series: An Introduction to Fractal Imaging
Pendar 15: Monday, February 2nd, 6:00 pm, DC 1304
Speaker: Mehran Ebrahimi (PhD Candidate, Dept. of Applied Mathematics, UW)
Topic: An Introduction to Fractal Imaging
The talk does not require any previous knowledge of the material, and is intended for a wide range of audience.
This event has been held on Feb. 2nd - It's set on March 2nd - JUST to DEMO the system.
Abstract: The talk will be an introduction to theory of Iterated Function Systems (IFS), and the classical fractal image coding schemes. The mathematical backgrounds of IFS theory will be reviewed and Banach's contraction mapping theorem will be introduced as the key tool of this theory. IFS on grey level maps (IFSM) and local IFSM will be presented. Finally, an actual fractal encoding-decoding algorithm, based on local IFSM, will be explained.
